I was recently commissioned to photograph Sir William Stanier School in Crewe. Initially, I wasn't that excited about it. Photography in schools can be a minefield of red tape and bureaucracy, plus it's quite often a bit naff, cheesy shots for the prospectus.
My brief from their agency Waxwing, painted a picture of two struggling schools, merged by the local authority and now, with a new Principal in place, achieving great things in a disadvantaged area.
I was pretty much given a free ride to immerse myself in the school for a couple of days, shoot reportage of various classes underway, staff / pupil interaction, busy corridors, plus occasional portraits of staff and pupils past and present.
