I recently spent some time at the workshops of Cheshire Classic Cars. They are specialists in exotic classic car restoration and repair. I first met them when shooting for a travel client at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix last year.
Collectors from allover the world send their cherished motors here to be restored to their former glory over periods of 1-2 years. I’ve never seen such a huge collection of legendary marques under one roof. They are famous for their work with early Lamborghinis and their current projects include the actual car from the opening scenes of the original Italian Job film.
My interest was the people that work there. Passionate technicians and craftsmen that can dedicate 1-2 years of their working life to restoring a single car. These are the best in the business. Bodywork specialists, upholsterers and technicians with years of experience, using their hands along with tools they’ve owned all their lives, in some cases tools they'd inherited from fathers or made themselves. This coupled with techniques and processes that you just don’t see in a modern garage setting anymore, made for great day.
Highlights from the shoot can be seen here.
